To provide the best user experience possible, Symantec will occasionally add popular domains or IP ranges to the WSS default Bypassed Sites lists during major releases. Symantec uses its industry leading Global Intelligence Network to identify and validate new bypass candidates to ensure that they pose no security risk. The result is improved performance to end users who stream video content without the organization losing the ability to regulate access to the content. Some examples include:
- Googlevideo.com – The content delivery network (CDN) used to deliver YouTube media streams.
- windowsupdate.com – The domain used by Microsoft to deliver Windows update content.
Unified Agent (also known as WSS Agent) uses the Bypassed Sites list to determine what requests are sent directly to the content provider rather than through WSS. Although Symantec will continue to add new entries to the Bypassed Sites list, you can override these changes anytime in the WSS portal by navigating to Service mode > Network > Bypassed Sites.
