Symantec have launched a new Entitlement Management Capability in MySymantec located within the ‘My Products’ tab. It’s an Account Based Entitlement View (ABEV for short) that shows all entitlements purchased by a customer under the account that they were purchased and provides access to software and licence keys without having to register any serial numbers.
Resellers & Partners can now view entitlements that they have transacted for their customers as well as their expiry dates enabling more on-time renewals.
We are rolling this feature out to all our customers and partners/resellers in waves and if your account has been enabled then you will see the new view which we hope you enjoy and find useful.
This article describes how users can get access to entitlements under additional site accounts that are not currently listed in their ABEV.
End Customer View
Among the many attributes within an order transacted by Symantec’s ERP platform are the list of products for purchase, the end customer account (site name & address) and an end customer contact (first name/last name & email ID).
After order fulfillment, when that contact logs into MySymantec, their ABEV will show the site account and all its entitlements including those on the most recent order.
They can also request access to other accounts via the ‘Request Additional Site Access’ capability. Once their request is approved their ABEV will display the new account site and all its entitlements and cases.
For example, a previous order has resulted in Ted being associated to the account ‘Acme Inc’ which owns three entitlements. When Ted logs into MySymantec, his ABEV will look like:
The ABEV shows that Ted is associated to one account ‘Acme Inc’ which has three active entitlements - each with a separate serial number. The Entitlement Table also shows additional details for each entitlement and depending on Ted’s role he can also download software and licence keys for any of the entitlements where applicable as well as view cases for the account.
If Ted wishes to see entitlements belonging to another account, he will use the ‘Request Additional Site Access’ capability via the ‘Settings→Site Management’ drop down option in the yellow menu header as shown below:
Ted will supply the Support ID of the account he wishes to join, select the role (Admin/Standard/View Only) and clicks ‘Submit’ which will then send the request to a Site Administrator of the account for approval.
Each role has a different set of permissions as shown below:
View/Create case for Self
View/Create Case for Account
Generate Licence Key
Site Member approval
The Site Administrator role allows Ted to view all cases for the account including those created by other members, download software, generate licence keys and approve site membership requests from other members.
The standard role only allows Ted to view his own cases, download software and licence keys.
The View Only role only allows Ted to view his own cases with no access to software and licence keys.
Once his request is approved by the Site Administrator of the account he wishes to join, Ted will then see the account and its entitlements in his ABEV – the process flow is shown by the diagram below:
Approval Process for Site Management Requests
All site management requests made by a contact, whether they are to join an account or change a role on an account will have to go via the standard approval process that is in place today i.e. an existing Site Administrator for that account must approve the request as shown below:
Ted’s Site Access Request to join Farm Foods is sent to the Site Administrator for Farm Foods. If the Site Administrator approves the request, Ted will be granted access to Farm Foods site and its entitlements and his ABEV will updated to reflect the new account. If the Site Administrator denies the request, then Ted will be refused access and his ABEV will remain unchanged.
If the account Ted wishes to join has no Site Administrator, then the request will be sent to Symantec Customer Care for approval.
