Symptoms The initial encryption process was halted when the program encountered bad sectors. A message was displayed that stated defective sectors were found and the encryption process was halted. It also told the user to restart the machine before the encryption process would be allowed to continue.
Error text: "The encryption/decryption process has been halted because the sector map could not be updated to record a defective sector that was discovered while encrypting/decrypting the drive. Please restart the computer. If the problem re-occurs you will need to decrypt the drive using the Symantec Endpoint Encryption-Full Disk recover program. Refer to the Symantec Endpoint Encryption-Full Disk documentation for the recovery instructions."
When this error is encountered the machine may be partially encrypted and is still accessible via the Symantec Endpoint Encryption login. However the encryption will not complete.
The options include:
Replace the hard drive (recommended)
Decrypt the current hard drive and run "chkdsk /r" to flag the bad section, then attempt to encrypt the drive.
