The description for Event ID ( 101 ) in Source ( Automatic LiveUpdate Scheduler ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: error, Failed unregistering service.
During the process of upgrading the LiveUpdate file 'ALUSchedulerSvc.exe' is being referenced. Since the Automatic LiveUpdate service is not registered when installed with non-Norton products, trying to run that .exe file generates the Event ID 101 error in the Event Log. You can also duplicate the same error by manually running the 'ALUSchedulerSvc.exe' program in /Program Files/Symantec/LiveUpdate.
The Automatic LiveUpdate module is only for Norton products, and while the files are installed with any install of LiveUpdate 3.0, the service is not registered with the OS when it is installed with non-Norton products.
As such the error can be safely disregarded with installs and upgrades of Enterprise products such as Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) and Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP).
