Error: "Invalid login. Please try again" when logging in to a pcAnywhere host

You are connecting to a pcAnywhere host and it prompts you for a Username and Password. You enter your Username and press Enter. When you attempt to type in the password, you do not see any typing in the password field. Instead, you see the following error message: "Invalid login. Please try again."
There are several scenarios that will cause this situation:
You have entered the user name or password incorrectly.
You have entered the user name and then pressed Enter before entering the password.
You have uninstalled pcAnywhere at the host but retained host items you had placed on the desktop. After you reinstalled pcAnywhere, you used those same desktop items.
You pushed pcAnywhere to a desktop with a third-party application and did not explicitly push the caller (.cif) file for that login.
You have multiple hosts behind a router or firewall, and you didn't specify unique port pairs for each host.
You are entering credentials for a user that isn't in the list of callers for this host.
Trust issues between multiple domains
Valid user name or password Make sure that you are correctly entering the user name an password.
Note: The user name and password are case-sensitive.
Pressing Enter before entering the password By pressing Enter, you send the Username to the host without an accompanying password. The host cannot authenticate you, and it prompts you with the dialog box. The correct login procedure follows:
At the login dialog box, enter the user name in the Username field.
Press Tab or use the mouse to move to the password field.
Enter the password in the password field.
If you are logging into a Windows NT domain, follow the next two steps. Otherwise, skip to step 7.
Press Tab or use the mouse to move to the Domain field.
Enter the Domain name.
Press Enter or click OK.
Host desktop items In this situation, you have created a host item and moved it to the Windows desktop. You've configured that item for callers. Later, you uninstalled pcAnywhere for some reason and reinstalled. The host item is unchanged by the uninstallation. After you reinstall pcAnywhere, it will initialize and wait for a connection. However, since it is still configured for callers, it will prompt you for a login and password even though no callers were defined after the reinstallation.
The solution to this is to save the pcAnywhere Data folder before you uninstall, and then restore that folder after you reinstall.
Third-party installations With pcAnywhere 9.x and 10.x, a network administrator can remotely install pcAnywhere to any number of client computers. However, this type of installation does not push out any callers that the administrator may preconfigure. Unless the administrator creates a second job that explicitly pushes the caller files, the situation described in the "Host desktop items" section above is inadvertently created.
Multiple hosts behind a router or firewall To access different pcAnywhere hosts that are behind a router or firewall, you must configure each pcAnywhere host to use a different set of TCP/IP ports and configure the router or firewall to open those ports.
To change the ports that pcAnywhere uses, refer to the appropriate document:
Credentials for a user that isn't in the list of callers for this host. The user and password being used are correct but the user is not listed in the Callers tab for the host. You can update the callers by opening the pcAnywhere application and navigateing to the host secion. Right click on the host that is being used and select properties. Navigate to the callers tab and then add your additional callers to the list of callers that can authenticate to this host.
Trust issues between multiple domains Ensure there are trust relationships between machines and users across domains if you are using multiple domains.
