(11iv2) of Intel Itanium architecture, and 11.31 (of both PA-RISC and Itanium architecture)
NOTE: Before installing a new agent , verify that all previous installations have been uninstalled and directories are empty.
Warning: Ensure that the UNIX agent is installed for the root user and the queries are executed in the root context. The agent must not be installed for any non-root user.
Installing the UNIX agent manually on HP-UX target computers We recommend that you install the UNIX agent using install.sh, but you can also install it manually on the target computer. You must save the agent installation package on the local drive for the manual installation. You can install the UNIX agent on the IBM AIX target computer manually by extracting the bv-Control.9.0.<build number>
file from the product disc on the target computer.
To install the UNIX package on the HP-UX target computer from a local drive
1 Create a directory on the HP-UX target computer. Example: /tmp/bvinstall
2 Copy the HP-UX package (i.e. bv-Control.9.0.<build number>
file) from the OS-specific folder that is located in the \CCS_DataCollection\Support_Installs\bv_Control_for_UNIX directory of the product disc drive. The build number consists of the last three digits of the file name.
3 Change directory to the newly created directory to uncompress and untar the bvControl.tgz file on the HP-UX computer: cd /tmp/bvinstall gzip -d bv-Control.9.0.<build number>
.tgz tar xf bv-Control.9.0.<build number>
4 Type the following command to install the package:
swinstall -s /tmp/bvinstall bvControl 5 Press Enter. To install the UNIX package on the HP-UX target computer from the product disc 1 Type the following commands to mount the product disc: pfs_mountd & and press Enter. pfsd & and press Enter. pfs_mount [cd-rom device] /mnt and press Enter. 2 Type the following command to install the package and press Enter: swinstall -s /mnt/bv-Control_for_Unix/HP-UX bvControl 3 Type the following command to unmount the product disc and press Enter: pfs_umount /mnt after you install the package, the following prompt appears: swinstall -s /mnt/bv-Control_for_Unix/HP-UX bvControl ======= 04/03/04 17:12:06 GMT BEGIN swinstall SESSION (non-interactive) (jobid=hp-pune-0665) * Session started for user "root@hp-pune". * Beginning Selection * Target connection succeeded for <machine name>

-0665) You have installed the UNIX package on your UNIX target computer. You must now run the setup shell to register the UNIX target with the Information Server. See “Running the setup.sh script” on page 56.
Running the setup.sh script
The setup shell (setup.sh) script can be used to register the UNIX agent with the Information Server. The UNIX agent can be configured to communicate with the Information Server using a default interface or a specific IP address. UNIX target computers can have multiple Network Interface Cards (NICs) and depending upon the need you can run the daemon on any one of them. By default, the UNIX daemons listen to all installed NICs. If the Information Server gets a wrong IP address from a target computer for communication, then there is loss of communication between the computers.
Note: You must ensure that your firewall does not block the UNIX target registration process. If it blocks the registration, then you can add the port 1236 as Exception in the Windows Firewall dialog box of the Windows computer. The UNIX agent can register in the port 1236.
