After installing upgrade, two instances of the application appear in Add or Remove Programs.
If duplicate entries appear in Control Panel, the ALLUSERS property for the second installation may not be the same as in the first installation. Check the
Property table in both the original .MSI and the upgrade .MSI to ensure that the
ALLUSERS property is the same for both installations
Another reason for the entry to be in the Add or Remove programs twice is that the Product code, Package Code, or version numbers are not different between the original and upgrade .MSI. Check these codes in the
Property table of Setup Editor. The Package Code can be found in the
Summary table under the
Verify that the UpgradeCode properties are the same by going to the
Product tab in Setup Editor and clicking
Properties. Locate the UpgradeCode property and compare to the old .WSI/.MSI file. If the UpgradeCode properties are different, copy and paste the correct UpgradeCode from the old .WSI/.MSI file to the new .WSI/.MSI.
The Windows Installer can only read out 3 places for a version number. Ensure that the installation has a version number that increases at the third place, not the fourth. (Example 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 not 184.108.40.206 to 220.127.116.11).
On rare occasions, removing the Language codes or checking the
Include Maximum version in range checkbox in the
Upgrade Detail dialog in the Upgrade page has corrected this issue as well.
