After upgrading to Symantec Brightmail Gateway version 9.0.0-20, the Brightmail Engine and the MTA won't start.

You upgrade to Symantec Brightmail Gateway version 9.0.0-20 and the Brightmail Engine and MTA will not start.
Symptoms Migration has finished successfully, but after reboot the MTA and Brightmail Engine won't start and cannot be started.
The following log entries can be seen within debug level MTA log (maillog) and Brightmail Engine logs (bmserver_log):

Symantec Brightmail Gateway version 8.0.3 contains special fields within the scanner configuration file to prepare for migration of existing LDAP data sources to the new Directory Data Source component on Symantec Brightmail Gateway 9.0.0-20. The following conditions will cause the aforementioned symptoms in Symantec Brightmail Gateway 9.0.0-20 post upgrade: i) If an LDAP synchronization source had previously been created and removed using the command line interface command "clear syncdata" rather than through the Symantec Brightmail Gateway GUI. ii) If a new LDAP source is created pre-migration on Symantec Brightmail 8.0.3 which does not contain an LDAP synchronization source.
Create a new Directory Data Source for "Address Resolution" or enable "Address Resolution" within the migrated Directory Data Source, then start the MTA.
Create a LDAP synchronization source pre Symantec Brightmail Gateway 9.0.0-20 migration. This will create an Symantec Brightmail Gateway 9.0.0-20 Directory Data Source and enable "Address Resolution" post migration.
