MS Visual C++ Runtime pop-up error occurs when shutting down the Exchange server
Last Updated August 27, 2014
Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) is installed on your Exchange server. When you shut it down the following pop-up error occurs:
MS Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: c:\program files\symantec\smsmse\6.0\server\savfmsesrv.exe This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
The Windows shutdown process stopped services that SMSMSE needed before shutting down SMSMSE itself.
There are 2 possible workarounds for this issue:
Add the following services as dependencies to the SMSMSE service:
On the desktop of the Exchange server with SMSMSE installed, click Start.
In the Run box enter REGEDIT and press Enter.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SMSMSE.
Create a new REG_MULTI_SZ (Multi-String Value) named DependOnService.
In the Value Data box, type: MSExchangeIS MSExchangeSA
Close Regedit and restart the server.
Add a shutdown script that contains the following command:
NET STOP SMSMSE
Please refer to the following Microsoft article for how to create a shutdown script:
