How to update definitions on Symantec Mail Security for Domino 8.x 32 and 64 bit architectures
Last Updated July 16, 2014
You're running a mixed 32-bit and 64-bit deployment of Symantec Mail Security for Domino 8.x on your environment, and you want to know which AntiVirus definition update methods can be applied.
Please note that AV definition packages are dependant on the architecture of SMSDOM you are running. For example: only Java LiveUpdate running on SMSDOM 64-bit will update other 64-bit SMSDOM servers.
You can refer to the table below to understand the available options:
SMSDOM 32 bit
SMSDOM 64 bit
SEP/SAVCE definitions sharing
LiveUpdate + definitions replication
32-bit to 32-bit
64-bit to 64 bit
Intelligent Updater (IU)
32-bit IU package
64-bit IU package
Also note that if Java LiveUpdate (JLU) is turned off in SMSDOM, definitions propagation through Database replication will cease. However, if Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 (SEP 11) or Symantec AntiVirus 10.1 (SAV 10.1) are installed on the same server, they will ensure that definition updates will reach SMSDOM.
