Issue/Introduction

The installation of Scan Engine 5.2.x fails. An error message displayed in either a dialog box or a log entry in the Application Log of Windows Event Viewer reads "Product Symantec Scan Engine -- Error 1923.Services Symantec Scan Engine(symcscsan) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient priveleges to install system services."

Symptoms
  • You have local administrator priveleges on the machine where you attempted to install Scan Engine.
  • You attempted to install on Windows 2008.
  • The following log entry appears in the Application Log of the Windows Event Viewer:
    Eventid: 11923
    Source: MsiInstaller
    Event Data:
    Product Symantec Scan Engine -- Error 1923. Services Symantec Scan Engine (symcsan) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient priveleges to install system services.


Resolution


  1. In Control Panel, double-click "Programs and Features"
  2. Double click on Symantec Scan Engine
  3. Click Remove
  4. Click Next
  5. Begin the Scan Engine installation again.
