24 character limit when specifying a hostname or FQDN within the Remote Control window of the Symantec Management Console
Last Updated November 04, 2014
Within the Symantec Management Console, click Actions > Remote Management > Remote Control to open the Remote Control dialog. If the user types a hostname or Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) with a length of more than 24 characters, then an error occurs when the user clicks the Connect button.
"Could not find the requested host"
"pcAnywhere No Connection"
There was a limit of 24 characters imposed by some components of pcAnywhere Solution. If a hostname or FQDN with a length greater than 24 characters was specified, the pcAnywhere Solution components would truncate the length to 24 characters prior to initiating the remote control session.
Attached is a zip file containing a patch for this behavior, along with instructions for applying the patch.
Please apply the patch on each Notification Server which is affected by this issue. With the patch in place, the new limit for the Computer field is 63 characters.
