Notification Server Scheduled Tasks disappears after execution
Last Updated May 30, 2006
When viewing scheduled tasks related to Notification Server in the control panel on the server, the last run time column displays Never. These tasks will not execute if you try to manually run them.Opening the properties of the scheduled task shows the run rights with a local user account.Changing the run rights to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM will allow the task to run, except it immediately disappears from the list of scheduled tasks. The a.log file records the following activity:
Description: Unable to create an instance of the item the scheduled event is intended for (GUID: 7838ff56-a02b-465e-9c32-0307e32f0a47)

Running a repair on the Notification Server and allowing it to run through the NSSetup process will bring the scheduled tasks back; however, the original issue continues.
Customers reporting this issue have all installed Notification Server through terminal services. We found the resulting database does not have complete information about the scheduled tasks due to impersonation issues.
Log onto the Notification Server locally using the application identity account.Avoid using terminal services. If this is not possible, then consider using Remote Desktop with the console switch (mstsc /console).
