After attaching the original Altiris database to a new Windows and Notification Servers installation (with the same solutions and versions installed), I start getting the following error when trying to open the Altiris Console:
An error occurred constructing the tree from the XML provided by the server: 'error' is null or not an object (-2146823281).
However, I can get into the Incidents tab and the Deployment tab fine.
Even after trying article 1780, "Error under all tabs in the Altiris Console: Error occurred constructing the tree," and article 1862, "Console throwing ActiveX Error when installing a CAB file: 'The context help activex object fails to load'," I still get the same error in loading the treeviews for the Altiris Console.
Note: If your Notfication Server doesn't have any Altiris NS 6.0 SP3 Updates installed, please refer to the article 27055, "An error occurred constructing the tree from the XML provided by the server: 'error' is null or not an object."
After running a repair on Notification Server along with the NSSetup wizard, it is necessary to run a repair in any hotfix or update installed for any Altiris Solution as well. NSSetup will not make configuration changes introduced via hotfixes and updates.
First, try to run a repair in any of the hotfixes or updates for the Notification Server (not the Solutions) from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Usually those are called Altiris NS 6.0 SP3 Update (KBxxxxx). If it doesn't work, try to run a repair on the Notification Server. If after you run a repair on Notification Server and go through the NSSetup process you are still getting the same error, run a repair as well on any hotfix or update that is installed for the Notification Server; usually those are called Altiris NS 6.0 SP3 Update (KBxxxxx).
Applies To Notification Server 6.0.xxxx Any hotfix or update installed (like Hotfix 19, Altiris NS 6.0 SP3 Update (KB17614), or Update(KB22690) or newer updates.)
