When installing Notification Server 6.0, I see the following error message:
Failed to configure IIS. Failed to set IIS path to the registry, could not find the 'default Web Site'.
The user locked down IIS, so that the default Web site was not found. If you tried to open up http://localhost/ from a Web browser, localhost or "All unassigned" had been removed from the default Web site's properties under the Website tab. The problem with this is that the Notification Server 6.0 install code uses "Localhost" in the code to give a path to write the install to.
Go into IIS Manager to the "Default Website" properties (right-click on Default Website).
Go to the Web site tab > Advanced Website identification.
Add "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" by clicking Add and, in the first box (IP address), put "localhost" or "127.0.0.1", in the second box (tcp port) put port 80, and in the third box, you can leave that blank. Now click OK.
This will add the "localhost" to the Web identification list so that the page can be found. This entry can be removed after the install.
Applies To Notification Server 6.0 IIS 6.0
