When trying to get latest definitions by downloading latest Intelligent Updater and then executing this it fails. It says to review the Log.IntelligentUpdater.txt file in the users temp directory for more details.
The installation is missing a couple of DLLs and the registry settings that point to these DLLs.
Other Symantec products can put these files in place and so usually customers with multiple Symantec products installed will not see this problem. If Symantec Mail Security for Domino is the first and only installed Symantec antivirus product, updating with intelligent updater virus definitions may cause this error. So you can either install another Symantec product like local AV or follow the below steps to resolve your issue.
Attached to this technote is a file name IU.zip. Download this and follow these steps:
1. Uncompress the IU.zip file to your desktop
2. You will now have a IU folder on your desktop, go into this folder.
3. If you are using 32bit Symantec Mail Security for Domino 8.x on a 64bit OS and 32bit Domino then execute the Setup32.cmd file. If not, go to step 4. When it ask if you are sure you want to add the information in the file to your registry select Yes. You are now done.
4. If you are using 64bit Symantec Mail Security for Domino 8.x on a 64bit OS and 64bit Domino then execute the Setup64.cmd file. When it ask if you are sure you want to add the information in the file to your registry select Yes. You are now done.
This will put the DLLs in the right location and then have a couple registry values that point to where these files are located. The intelligent updater will then be able to read the registry settings, load the DLLs, and then successfully complete the process.

This can also happen with 32bit SMSDOM installed onto a 64bit OS and 32bit Domino.
