This article explains the most common reason why you might encounter the error message Cannot Open the Default Keyrings when opening PGP Keys as well as a possible solution to fix the error.
This error message usually means that PGP Desktop cannot find the default keyring files. These files are called secring.skr and pubring.pkr and by default they are located in %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\PGP.
If you configured your system to place the files in a non-default location, the actual location will be listed in the PGPprefs.txt file (located in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\PGP Corporation\PGP) or under the Files tab in the PGP Options.
You should check to see that the keyring files are located in the folder where PGP Desktop expects to find them. If they do not exist where PGP Desktop expects to find them, search the files on your computer to see if they have been moved and then place them back into their expected directory.
