When installing PGP Desktop 9.6 and above on Windows Vista, you receive one of the following two error messages:
Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete...
PGP Desktop requires Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher
Certain software may require Administrative permissions when installing software on Windows Vista. In some cases, Windows Vista does not properly recognize administrative permissions that exist on the machine. The software may also require that a different Compatibility Mode be used when running the program.
To use a different Compatibility Mode for the program, use the following steps:
1. Right-click the PGP Desktop installer file and click Properties. 2. Click the Compatibility tab.
3. Place a check mark next to Run this program in compatibility mode for: and leave the selection to the default of Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
4. Confirm the Privilege Level for the user.
5. Click OK to apply the changes.
After applying the changes, double-click on the PGP Desktop installation file to start the installation
