PGP Universal Server 3.0 is a major version release, which includes an extensive list of new features and architectural improvements. Due to these improvements, PGP Corporation is performing additional testing to validate the upgrade process and ensure a smooth transition to the new code base.
The information in this article provides guidance on which configurations can take advantage of PGP Universal Server 3.0 immediately. In addition, PGP Corporation identified certain configurations which should not upgrade the production environment server until further validation work has been done.
PGP Universal 3.0 provides new features that assist organizations in simplifying key and policy management.
As part of the extensive testing that this release has gone through, PGP has identified certain conditions in which we currently recommend to customers to not upgrade their production system yet. The following summarizes the recommendation on when to upgrade to PGP Universal Server 3.0 or version 3.0.1.
PGP Universal Server 3.0.1 is now available for download to eligible customers via the PGP License Entitlement Manager (LEMS).
Customers who meet the following criteria may upgrade to PGP Universal Server 3.0 immediately.
Less than 25,000 active internal users
Less than 150,000 active external users
Single node or 2 node clustering environment
If using PGP Web Messenger , it is operating in a high availability configuration (as opposed to a Home Server configuration)
Note that the user counts specify active users. The total number of users may exceed the respective parameters as long as the number of active users does not.
Conversely, customers who meet any of the following criteria should NOT upgrade a production environment to PGP Universal Server 3.0.
Customers with the following criteria should upgrade to version
3.0.1 of PGP Universal Server which is now available.
Note: The following conditions also apply to new installations of PGP Universal Server 3.0.0.
25,000 active internal users or greater
150,000 active external users or greater
Using more than 2 nodes for clustering
If using PGP Web Messenger, it is operating in Home Server mode
Customers who meet one or more of these conditions should continue evaluating the new features of the product in test environments, and prepare for upgrade advisements in the near future.
PGP Corporation is providing this guidance to ensure the safest upgrade path possible. The quality assurance teams are preparing additional tests in order to ensure that customers with large scale configurations make a smooth transition to PGP Universal Server 3.0, and to establish tuning guidelines to meet the performance requirements in such environments.
