After sending your public key to a recipient to encrypt email messages, the recipient states the key is too big for their system and cannot be used.
This article describes how to create a smaller sized PGP key.
PGP key sizes can range from 1024 bits to 4096 bits. The default key size is 2048 bits. The larger the key, the more secure it is, but the longer it will take to generate. Some smart cards and tokens limit key size to 1024 bits.
To create a smaller key size:
Open PGP Desktop.
Select the PGP Keys Control box.
Click File > New PGP Key. The PGP Key Generation Assistant is displayed.
Enter a name and email address for your key.
On the Name and Email Assignment screen, click Advanced.
Type 1024 for the value of the Signing key size and the Encryption key size.
Complete the Key Generation Assistant.
