If SMP 7.1, SMP 7.1 MP1 or ITMS 7.1 is installed and customer installs then OS SP1 for Windows 2008R2, after OS SP1 installation the SIM's critical update installation fails.
Example Scenario: 1) DMC 2.0.0 with NS 7.1 on W2K8R2 os is installed 2) Install Win 2008 R2 SP1 (OS service pack) 3) Open SIM 4) SIM update notification appears - upgrade SIM to the proposed 7.1.66 version 5) Open SIM again after the upgrade. 6) Notification about critical updates appears 7) Try to install the critical updates. 8) Installation fails with the following error displayed:
"A critical error occured: Failed to start product configuration process in the Altiris Service. Is the service started? ---> Failed to start product configuration process in the Altiris Service. Is the service started? --> No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:4010
Configuration failed while attempting: Configure InventorynetDevDocLanguages..."
With the Release of ITMS 7.1 SP1, it is now supported. ITMS 7.1 MP1 do not support Windows 2008 R2 SP1. We do have an IRC (Install Readiness Check) that won't allow you to install with it. However, since the Platform is already installed when Windows 2008 R2 was installed it allowed them to install. Then after they install the Windows 2008 R2 SP1 the IRC will not be ran again since the IRC is on the platform install.
This issue has been reported to Symantec Development team. This was an unsupported scenario since the SMP 7.1 MP1 / ITMS 7.1 MP1 doesn't support installing SP1 for Windows 2008R2. This issue has been resolved in this SMP 7.1 SP1 / ITMS 7.1 SP1 release.
