After upgrade to Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) 9.5.x, virus definitions stop downloading from the configured internal LAN Host (for example: a LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x Distribution Center). The error reported is "The downloaded AntiVirus Definitions could not be validated."
Please Note: If you have seen this error on or around the 3rd of November, 2011 after not performing a software upgrade, please refer to Symantec Tech Article TECH173625
The downloaded AntiVirus Definitions could not be validated.
This is a known issue.
As of June 25, 2011, this issue has been resolved. The June 25th 2011 update to the LiveUpdate Administrator product catalog contains the new product designator for Symantec Messaging Gateway. Customers should update their LiveUpdate Administrator Product Catalog, add Symantec Messaging Gateway to My Symantec Products list, then download the updates for that product within the LiveUpdate Administrator. At this point, SMG should be able update AntiVirus Definitions from the LiveUpdate Administrator.
Customers who cannot update the LiveUpdate Administrator Product Catalog can still use the following workaround, but they are strongly encouraged to update the LiveUpdate Administrator Product Catalog as outlined above.
Workaround (requires internet access from the SMG scanners)
Please change the LiveUpdate Settings to download virus definitions from the Symantec website instead of the internal LAN Host. Please also make sure that firewall rules have been updated to allow SMG Scanners access to Symantec LiveUpdate website.
