Symantec Messaging Gateway does not appear to be removing the prvs tag associated with Bounce Attack Prevention Seeds.
Last Updated June 15, 2011
Messages are coming into the environment and reaching the mail server that have a prvs tag associated with Bounce Attack Prevention Seeds still in the recipient email address. As a result, the messages are not reaching the intended recipients and instead are getting dropped. it is necessary to know how this is happening.
This situation is happening due to the message non-delivery response containing the prvs tag not being received by the Symantec Messaging Gateway device; rather they are being sent directly to the mail server
The environment will need to be fixed such that non-delivery responses containing prvs tags that were inserted into the original message that created the non-delivery response are relayed to the Symantec Messaging Gateway device. Once they are relayed there, Symantec Messaging Gateway will be able to remove the prvs tag and hand it to the mail server where it can be properly delivered.
A packet capture on the Symantec Messaging Gateway does not show any message being handed from the Gateway device to the mail server with 'prvs' in the recipient address.
