Network backups run slower when Intrusion Prevention System is installed on the backup server.

When running on a gigabit network, throughput to the backup server is noticeably slower. It is an average of 36% slower than with Symantec Management Client disabled or the IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) policy removed.
Network traffic must be filtered in order to guard against attacks. This process reduces the throughput some.
The risk of running without IPS is greater than the bandwidth gain. It is not recommended to run without IPS. For more information, see the following links:
