Web Console throws Java Out of Memory error when editing policy
Last Updated August 01, 2011
After logging into the web console and attempting to edit a policy it either hangs or throws a "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java Heap Space" error.
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java Heap Space
This Out Of Memory issue is related to Ajaxswing (the third-party software we use for Web Console).
When adding/editing policy, the expanded tree of groups/locations will be displayed in a pop-up window. If there is a large number of groups, the group tree will be large and Ajaxswing will generate a large html content which can easily lead to the Out Of Memory error.
This issue was fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 as it includes a newer version of Ajaxswing. For RU7 and earlier builds use the work-around below as they do not include the updated version of Ajaxswing.
WORKAROUND: Use the following steps to resolve the issue:
1. Edit sesm.xml under %windir%/TEMP, and find locationCounting= “true”, change to locationCounting=”false”
2. Edit WEB-INF/ajaxswing/conf/sepm.properties, add a new line at the bottom: component.com.sygate.scm.console.ui.policy.explorer.common.LocationCheckBoxTree.tree.submitOnExpand=true
3. Restart the SEPM service.
