Self-managed Symantec Endpoint Protection client fails to successfully run LiveUpdate

A self-managed ("unmanaged") SEP client fails to successfully run LiveUpdate. Examining log.liveupdate it is seen that LiveUpdate attempts to connect to a LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x (LUA 2.x) server that is no longer in use.
LiveUpdate is still configured to retrieve content from an LUA 2.x server which has been removed.
The SEP client can be configured to either connect to the current LUA 2.x server or to connect to Internet LiveUpdate source servers. A file which can accomplish this can be found in the cross-referenced article. Alternately, uninstalling and re-installing the SEP client will restore the default (Internet) LiveUpdate source servers.
