Cannot run Database Backup Utility if UAC is enabled.
Last Updated February 13, 2015
If UAC is enabled on the machine, the Database Backup Utility does not run correctly. Attempting to use "Run as Administrator" from the Windows Start Menu doesn't work either.
DB Utility returns the following error:
Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Could not find the main class:
com.sygate.scm.tools.DatabaseFrame. Program will exit.
Symantec believes that this behavior is limited to the 12.1 initial product release. Upgrading to SEP 12.1 RU1 or higher is recommended to permenantly resolve this issue.
To work around this problem, start a Command Prompt with the Run as Administrator option. At the elevated command prompt, navigate to \Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\bin, and run dbtools.bat.
In rare circumstances where this disabiling UAC or initiating the database backup tool via elevated commnd prompt does not work as expected, it may be necessary to run a Repair on the SEP Manager install to correctly reset any JVM paths that may have been altered since installation.
