Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage (SEE RS) prompts for password on MS Office temporary files
Last Updated July 06, 2011
When saving an Excel file to a removable device with SEE RS, it prompts for a password twice; once for the Excel file and once for the temp file.
This is expected behavior since MS Office creates temporary files when we open/edit the files from RS device or from Desktop or from any other location. Since default password and/or certificate is not set, SEE-RS will try to encrypt the temporary files also (MS Office temporary file is simply a backup copy of the original file which was created by MS Office - we encrypt these files also since these files may also have the sensitive data in it). We can avoid these multiple encryption prompts by setting up default password and/or session passwords and/or default certificates in the SEE-RS client. There is no specific policy available in SEE-RS manager or client to avoid temporary files encryption.
