When configuring the Location to be used for the SPC 2.0 (Symantec Protection Center) backups or the Active Directory and LDAP Server setting Hostname a Invalid or Invalid Hostname error will be displayed next to the field if a server is used that starts with a Number rather than an Alpha character. See screen shots below.

There is a limitation currently with in the SPC GUI that is limiting the use of server names that start with a number. The server may be accessible by the SPC server but the GUI won't allow the settings to be saved until a computer name that it feels is valid is entered.
For backups use of a server name that starts with a number select a server share that start with an alpha character to resolve this issue. The use of the IP of the server will be ok if an alternate server isn't available.
For adding accounts use the IP of the Sever in question rather than the computer name that starts with a number the GUI can be satisfied and the settings can be saved and connectivity to the desired resource can be achieved.

This issue is currently being considered by Symantec to be addressed in the next major revision of the product.
