You have just upgraded the Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) from a previous version using the update install command. The SMG has completed the upgrade, completed rebooting, and you have logged back into the (command line interface) CLI to verify the upgrade has completed successfully. To do this you have executed the show -v command. Instead of the expected version you see the following:
Version: Install Date: package sms-appliance-release is not installed package sms-appliance-release is not installed
You are concerned that there has been a problem with the upgrade; however, during the upgrade no errors were reported.
Immediately after upgrading the Symantec Messaging Gateway, the show -v command, does not show the expected version and install date. Instead the error message below is observed.
Version: Install Date:
package sms-appliance-release is not installed package sms-appliance-release is not installed
The show -v command queries the local RPM database for the version of the sms-appliance-release-x.x.x-x package. For example, for version 9.5.1-6 this package would be named sms-appliance-release-9.5.1-6. The reason the show version command has failed is because the query made to the RPM database has failed. The package has likely been installed successfully and the RPM database should to be verified and repaired.
Please run the following commands via the CLI:
The update list command, when ran after the rpmdb -r and rpmdb -v commands; should report that the installed version is as expected. The show -v command should now return the expected results. If the update list command fails to show the expected version, or the show -v command fails again, after running the commands listed in the order above, please contact Symantec Support.
