A large increase in email traffic from a specific sender is expected in the network and it is necessary to be able to configure Symantec Messaging Gateway such that it is able to handle this increase in single-source traffic.
It is important to distinguish if there is going to be an increase in connections, or just an increase in recipients of given messages. If a message only has an increase in recipients, then it may not be necessary to do anything as that entire message will be transmitted in a single connection.
If there is an expected increase in overall connections from a single IP address, it will be necessary to increase the number of allowed connections from a given IP address. The default setting is 20 and it can not be changed without disabling connection classification.
To increase maximum number of connections from a specific IP address:
Edit the scanner in question.
Click the SMTP tab.
Click Advanced Settings at the bottom of the screen.
Increase the setting 'Maximum number of connections from a single IP addreses:'
