Enabling a Symantec Endpoint Protection Management (SEPM) 12.1 Server in Symantec Protection Center (SPC) 2.0 results in an error.
Last Updated August 23, 2011
When attempting to enable a SEPM 12.1 server in SPC 2.x you receive an "Unknown error" and you are directed to check the 'System Logs'.
Unknown error. Check the Protection Center 'System Logs' report for possible causes of the error.
The default web console port used by Symantec Endpoint Protection Management Server 12.1 was changed during installation to something other than the default port of 8443.
To allow integration between a SEPM 12.1 Server and SPC 2.x console the port used by SEPM's console interface can be changed back to the default, or the port that SPC 2.x uses for integration can be changed.
Both options are presented below. Choose the option that works best for your environment.
Option 1: Modify the port SPC attempts to integrate the web console with.
To configure the port SPC 2.x looks for when registering a SEPM Server perform the following: (Note: This modifies this instance of looking for a SEPM Server. This process will need to be performed for all SEPM servers wishing to be added if they also had their default web console port changed during configuration)
Logon to your SPC 2.x console
Navigate to the Available Supported Products Tab - Click Symantec Protection Center > Admin > Supported Products > Available Supported Products
Locate the SEPM Server that you previously attempted to integrate
Expand the Advanced Options by placing your mouse over the words "Advanced options", and then left clicking.
On the Console port line change the default 8443 to the port you configured SEPM to use during it's setup.
Evaluate the other lines, and change the listed ports, if needed.
Option 2: Modify your SEPM 12.1 Server setup.
To reconfigure the SEPM Server port:
Click Start > Run
Type services.msc, and then click OK.
Stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Service.
