How to modify Symantec Security Information Manager Database Collectors for Point Products that use the MS SQL Server 2008 database
Last Updated August 03, 2011
You are trying to collect from a 3rd party product that uses MS SQL Server 2008 database and you would like to use the version 2.0 jdbc driver. Can you configure the collector to use the updated jdbc driver?
You can use the v1.2 JDBC driver to connect to a Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005/2008, however if you want to use the v2.0 JDBC driver you can modify the config.xml for the collector. The config.xml file is located in the collector folder for your particular collector. On Windows the path might be "Program Files\Symantec\Event Agent\collectors\<collector name>
". On the SSIM appliance the path is /opt/Symantec/sesa/Agent/collectors/<collector name>
Download and install the Windows, sqljdbc_2.0.1803.100_enu.exe, or the Unix,sqljdbc_2.0.1803.100_enu.tar.gz, version of the v2.0 JDBC driver from Microsoft:
Edit the collector's config.xml file and change these lines:
<prop key="JdbcDriverFiles">[MS SQL Server 2000 or MS SQL Server 2005 driver]</prop> to <prop key="JdbcDriverFiles">sqljdbc4.jar</prop>
(* see NOTE below for example * )
Configure the Collector Sensor configuration:
JDBC Drivers Directory = The directory where the sqljdbc4.jar file was installed. For example in Windows the path might be "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Driver 2.0\sqljdbc_2.0\enu"
Database URL is the same as that for the v1.2 JDBC driver and point to the database for the 3rd party product. For example "jdbc:sqlserver//10.x.x.x;DatabaseName="
NOTE: The original line for the MSSQL 2000 driver might look like this: <prop key="JdbcDriverFiles">msbase.jar;mssqlserver.jar;msutil.jar</prop> The original line for the MSSQL 2005 driver might look like this: <prop key="JdbcDriverFiles">sqljdbc.jar</prop>
