Company policy only allows some employees to have access to a specific list of business related web sites. How can this be done with the Symantec Web Gateway?
To accomplish this Created a policy in the Web Gateway for this user group. This is done by selecting new Policy on the User Interface on the Policies – Configuration page.
Press the button Block all for All Categories at the top of the Content Filter Categories section. This will set all the content filtering categories to block.
At the very bottom of the policy click Add an Exception button. Enter the URL or IP address of one of the sites users are allowed access , select either Allow or Monitor for the Action then enter a Description is so desired. Repeat the this process as often as needed to add all the exceptions.
If you have a list of URL/IP in a text file one per line then it is possible to import the list all at once. On the line Upload Exceptions from File, Select the action you want again either Allow or Monitor, Then press the Browse button to select the text file, Press the Upload button to start the import.
Note: There is a limit of 512 Exceptions total across all policies. If you exceed this you will not be able to modify or policies until the list of exceptions is reduced to less than 512 entries.
