An application error occurs when generating a certificate request in Symantec Messaging Gateway.
Last Updated May 22, 2012
While attempting to generate a Certificate Signing Request in Symantec Messaging Gateway, when clicking on the 'request' button after filling out all required fields, an error occurs: 'An Application error has occurred. Please check the event log or contact your system Administrator for more information.'
Brightmaillog.log file shows the following entry:
Mar 23 2011 16:51:58 [http-41443-Processor2] ERROR - java.security.cert.CertificateException: exception encoding TBS cert
- java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: 16
Mar 23 2011 16:51:58 [http-41443-Processor2] ERROR -
java.security.cert.CertificateException: exception encoding TBS cert - java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String
index out of range: 16
Certificate creation fails when the email address begins with a '#' character.
This issue has been addressed with the SMG 9.5.4 release; a leading '#' character in any field will no longer result in failure to create the certificate signing request or self-signed certificate.
Workaround for earlier releases:
Avoid using an email address that begins with the '#' character when creating self-signed certificates or certificate signing requests.
