Installing SNAC 12.1 in conjunction with an existing installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) 12.1
Last Updated March 31, 2014
The error - "The license cannot be used because it applies to a different Symantec Product" is returned when applying a Symantec Network Access Control (SNAC) license to an existing installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) 12.1 (or higher).
"The license cannot be used because it applies to a different Symantec Product"
Attempting to register the SNAC license before the SNAC component is enabled/installed on the SEPM will result in a licensing error. If the installed version of Symantec Network Access Control is not the same as the version the license is for - the error will be generated as well.
Enable the SNAC component on an already running SEP Manager 12.1 by following these instructions:
Insert the installation CD -> "Symantec Endpoint Protection" auto start menu will appear. This can be run as well by executing the "setup.exe" from the root directory
Select Install Symantec Network Access Control
Select Install Symantec Endpoint protection Manger. The Setup program will copy the License file and start configuring the SEPM.
Go through all steps of the the "Management Server Upgrade Wizard".
Login into SEPM and activate the SNAC license by going into License Activation Wizard (Admin -> Licenses -> Activate License).
Please note: Selecting "Install Symantec Network Access Control", will not install the SNAC component to the SEPM, it will only install a SNAC client.
