Error "Unable to connect with the information provided. Please connect and try again." occurs when trying to configure the IT Analytics Symantec Endpoint Protection connection to use SQL Anywhere

When trying to configure the IT Analytics Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) connection to use SEP's embedded database, SQL Anywhere, the error "Unable to connect with the information provided. Please connect and try again." occurs.
Unable to connect with the information provided. Please connect and try again.
IT Analytics is unable to create the required linked server object in the embedded SQL Anywhere database. This requires Microsoft SQL Server and will not work with any other database type, including the embedded SQL Anywhere database provided by a Symantec Endpoint Protection installation.
Re-install Symantec Endpoint Protection and configure it to use a Microsoft SQL Server instead of its embedded SQL Anywhere database. There are no other workarounds.
Note: The database type used by SEP can be found by following these instructions:
In the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager console, click on Admin > Servers.
Select the server object used by the SEP database. This is often found under the default names of Servers > Local Site (My Site) > localhost, but may be different depending on if these names were changed during the SEP install. There may be several servers listed. The one for SEP should have an icon as highlighted in the screenshot below:
The Type field displays the database type. This will either be "Embedded (SQL Anywhere)" or "Microsoft SQL Server". If "Microsoft SQL Server" is what is being used, not "Embedded (SQL Anywhere)", refer to the Related Articles section for additional troubleshooting.
