The CPU usage field of the Hardware Status tab within the Host Information section of the Symantec Messaging Gateway interface indicates that most or all of the CPU is being utilized by the appliance. You want to know why this is.
From time to time, the appliance may be doing quite a few tasks at once (filtering messages, recording log data within the mysql database, downloading and applying definitions and heuristics for example.) some of which can require a lot of time allocated to the operation from the cpu.
In a situation like this, the main concern would be whether or not the cpu utilization abates or not and if it does not abate, does it affect mail flow? If mail flow is affected, it is recommended that you contact Symantec Technical Support so log data can be gathered while the problem is live.
