Scan Engine Protection for SharePoint Servers

Issue/Introduction

After installing the Symantec Protection for SharePoint Server on a 2010 SharePoint server running the Central Admin, the SPSS console does not show up in the Central Admin page.

Cause

This issue can be cause by not having the correct permission to the SQL DB for the SharePoint farm install.

Resolution

When installing the Symantec Protection for SharePoint Server on 2010 SharePoint server, whether it's a "Standalone" or "Farm" install, the user account must have full admin rights plus read/write permission to the SharePoint content database on the SQL DB.

It's recommended to use the initial account that the 2010 SharePoint server was installed with or create a user account that has the local admin along with the read/write access to the SharePoint content DB.

Note: SQL 2008 requires the admin to manually give a user read/write access to a DB. Just having a local admin on the SQL Server no longer works, as it did in the past with SQL 2005.
