Not all objects are visible in a Notification Console when the Console is opened from a computer other than the Notification Server
Last Updated June 27, 2009
Not all console objects are visible when using the Notification console from a workstation other than the server where the Notification Server is installed.
Some problems may include grids not appearing, Access Denied errors, and errors when trying to run reports that the page has expired and needs to be refreshed.
You may see error "Data could not be loaded" when viewing Filters
Here is what you may see in the NS log:-
Unexpected exception encountered while running a query. ( Unhandled exception. Type=System.NullReferenceException Msg=Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Src=Altiris.NS.UI StackTrace= at Altiris.NS.UI.CoreWebService.GetGridRowData(String sessionId, Int32 pageNumber, Int32 PageSize, String strGuid, Int32& cols, Int32& rows, String& xmlSchema, String& rowData, Int32& totalRows, String& errorMessage) )
The Notification Server name includes an underscore ( _ ) in it. Microsoft doesn't recommend to use this type of characters for Server names or machine names. Please see this link for additional information:
IIS does not work well with server names that include the underscore ( _ ) character.
Changing the Notification Server name is not supported. There are too many database references and regkeys that will not update if the Notification Server name is changed after it has been installed. In most cases you may need to reinstall Notification Server after the servername has been changed.
