Windows Application Event Logs Contain Error Entries from LiveUpdate Administrator's PostgreSQL Database
Last Updated July 23, 2014
Since LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x (LUA 2.x) has been installed on a server, it has recorded events of "Error" severity in the Windows Application event log. These errors come from PostgreSQL, LUA's database component. Is PostgreSQL malfunctoning? Is there cause for concern?
These entries do not necessarily reflect failures within LUA 2.x. In almost all cases, these error messages can be treated as cosmetic events that have their root in the way that PostgreSQL integrates with Symantec's code.
Rather than Windows Application Event Log, please use LUA's built-in Event Log to monitor for failures. This Event Log can be filtered for entries of "Critical" severity. LUA 2.3 also introduced the ability for a notification mail to be sent to administrators should a download or distribution job fail to complete successfully. For full details, please see the Symantec LiveUpdate™ Administrator 2.3 User's Guide.
