Virus Definitions on the Symantec Messaging Gateway version 9.5.X cannot be updated with the error message "The downloaded AntiVirus Definitions could not be validated" being reported.
The following applies to this issue:
- You have noticed this issue starting on or around the 3rd of November, 2011. - The Antivirus definitions were last updated on the 2nd of November (the Liveupdate settings page may show 2011-11-2 (2) ). - The Liveupdate schedule is configured to download Certified definitions (not Rapid Response updates).
The downloaded AntiVirus Definitions could not be validated
This issue was seen with a Certified Antivirus Definition set made available on the 3rd of November 2011.
Users who were seeing this error, should no longer see the error when updating to the latest Certified Antivirus Definition set dated the 4th of November, 2011 or newer.
If you had changed the LiveUpdate schedule to Rapid Response definitions at a time when the above-mentioned LiveUpdate error was seen, changing the schedule back to "Enable automatic updates on the following schedule", saving the change, then selecting "LiveUpdate Now" should allow you to download the latest Certified Antivirus Definition set without seeing the same error.
If you are seeing the same LiveUpdate error with a Certified definition set dated on the 4th of November 2011 or newer, please contact Symantec Enterprise Support.
