Symantec Messaging Gateway fails to login to the Directory Integration source that has been configured.

A Directory Integration source has been configured on the Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG),however when the login credentials are tested, it states that it could not connect with the Directory Integration server. How is it possible to troubleshoot this particular issue?
Examination of the dds.log shows the following entry:
[LoggingDDS] ERROR - 800404
com.symantec.sms.dds.api.exception.DataAccessConnectTimedOutException: Failure connecting to data source, network connection timed out: Ten
The error in question is due to the connection timing out when it reaches the directory integration server.
It will be necessary to troubleshoot the environment to determine the cause of the network timeout.
