What are the required configurations for installing the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 12.1 Enterprise Edition with SQL Server 2005 when Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and SQL Server 2005 are installed in two different Server.
Note: If the SQL Server is on a separate server, then you must install the SQL Server 2005 Client components on the SEPM server. If the SQL server is on the same system as SEPM, skip this step.
The following is a checklist and general outline of configurations to make as they are encountered during a typical Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) and SQL 2005 server installation process.

Step 1: Installing SQL Client Components
Installing the SQL Server 2005 Client components
1. Insert the SQL 2005 Server installation disk. 2. On the main menu, under Install, Server Components, tools, Books Online, and samples 3. Accept the EULA, click Next. The Installing Prerequisites screen appears. Click Install to install the required prerequisites. 4. The Server installation Wizard appears. Click Next to proceed to the System Configuration Check. 5. Once past the System Configuration Check, enter your registration information and click Next. 6. Now the Components to Install screen appears. 7. Click Advanced 8. Click Client Components and choose "Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive" 9. Click Next to install these components.
Step 2: Configuring the SQL Server 2005 Client components
1. Click Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager. 2. Under SQL Native Client Configuration, click Client Protocols, 3. Right-click TCP/IP, and then click Properties. 4. In the Default Port box, type the port number that matches the port that is used by the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 instance. The default port is typically 1433. 5. Click Apply, then OK.
Step 3: Installing Symantec endpoint protection manager with SQL
1. Download software from http://fileconnect.symantec.com and extract the file. 2. Run Setup.exe 3. Installation Wizard will Start and you will get the Welcome Screen. Click next on that screen. 4. Accept License Agreement and click on next. 5. On the Destination Folder Screen Click on Change if you want to change the default path and select the new destination or just click on next to continue with default path. 6. On the Ready to Install Screen Click on Install. Setup Progress Will appear on the screen. 7. Once the Setup completes successfully, Configuration of the management server will begin. Click next on that Screen. 8. Select Custom Configuration and Click on Next. 9. Select the required Number of Clients depending upon the size of the Network. 10.Select "Install My First Site" as this is a Fresh Install and then click on Next. 11.Change any port number if required or the port number that is in use already and click on Next. 12.On the Next Screen Select "Microsoft SQL Server" for database and click on Next. 13.On the Next Screen select "Create a New Database" and click on Next. 14.On the next Screen Select the desired Authentication mode. (Recommended SQL Authentication) 15.Check Database Server name, SQL Server port number, Server username and password and SQL server client folder location. 16.Once all the information are verified then click on Connect to database button on the Screen and then move to Step 2(New database creation). 17.Database Name : sem5 Database username : sem5 Database Password : User Defined. Once all these information is Entered click on Next. 18.In the Encryption Password Page select the Mode as required and then click on Next. 19.In the Data Collection Page Click on Next. It will start Creating the Database. 20.Once Database is Created it will Give you the Installation Wizard Complete Screen. Click on Finish. 21.SEPM Login Screen with Password recovery option will appear.
