What is the purpose of the configuration scan options
Last Updated March 30, 2012
What is the purpose of the configuration scan options under the scan scheduling in Risk Automation Suite?
The scan options were added to the portal to give the option to turn off types of scanning of that were causing issues in customers' environments, such as scanning shares causing scan hangs because of the volume of mapped drives being used or scanning Unix systems for things native to Windows machines.
The things to be aware of are that when you choose to de-select some of those options you can turn off scanning for things that are required for some content and if you do an ad-hoc scan it will still scan everything.
As far as the vulnerabilities you could miss by having those scan options turned off, that would depend on what content you have imported and what your policies are checking for. This could cause you to not only potentially miss vulnerabilities but to have false positives because the scanner isn't able to get information needed to show that something is in compliance.
