Content filtering message violations for which the action is to Add annotation receive a plain text annotation. If a content filtering message's body part is in both text and HTML, one of the following events occurs:
The plain text annotation is added to the plain text part, and the HTML annotation is added to the HTML part. Only the HTML version appears in the resulting email message.
- If specifying only a plain text annotation then only the plain text annotation is added.
- If specifying a plain text and HTML annotation both will not apply in conjunction with each other. HTML is optional over the plain text and will leave plain text redundant if chosen.
To achieve an image and text together then apply the input to the plain text area for best results. Be sure to refer to a correct image link on a public facing internet source.
Refer to the attached image as a reference. Be sure to create the annotation rule from new as opposed to editing an exisitng annotation so your plain text applies correctly.
It may be possible to achieve the same result using the HTML option and with the use of creative forms of HTML however specific wrapping is not recommended by Symantec when using HTML annotations.
SMG 9.5.x however version 8.x and 7.x both apply annotations in the same manner.
