Protection for SharePoint Servers

Issue/Introduction

While attempting to install Symantec Protection for SharePoint Servers (SPSS) 6.0 or starting the service on Windows, the process fails. The Application Event log shows "Requested value 'SPVERSION' was not found...".

Cause

User Access Control (UAC) is preventing the installation from fully completing.

Resolution

You will need to either lower the User Account Control (UAC) level during the installation or temporarily disable it entirely for the installation. To do this go to Control Panel -> User Accounts -> click on Change User Account settings. Lower the level to Never notify, and click OK. Attempt to install Symantec Protection for SharePoint Servers 6.0 again. After SPSS 6.0 is installed the UAC Level can be returned to its previous level.

In some cases, disabling UAC this way does not work. If this happens, please disable UAC via the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system
Name: EnableLUA
LUA Type: DWORD
Value: 0

If value is 1, change it to 0. This change requires a reboot of the server. The change can be reverted after installation is complete.
