LiveUpdate concludes with Error code LU1814 while trying to update Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Replication partner
Last Updated June 12, 2013
The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) server's connection attempt failed with a return code of 1814, "LiveUpdate could not retrieve the catalog file of available Symantec product and component updates." This SEPM is a replication partner of another SEPM on a different site. Only one site has internet access.
12/11/2011, 5:18:15 GMT -> EVENT - SERVER SELECTION FAILED EVENT - LiveUpdate failed to connect to server liveupdate.symantec.com at path via a HTTP connection. The server connection attempt failed with a return code of 1814, LiveUpdate could not retrieve the catalog file of available Symantec product and component updates.
The Replication Site is configured to take the updates from Symantec LiveUpdate Server, though it usually receives new content from its Replication partner SEPM in the Primary Location. When running Luall.exe or LiveUpdate from the Replication Site SEPM, it concludes with error message LU1814 and Return value 4.
When checking the settings of primary SEPM, Replication was showing as failed. The Primary Server was not able to ping or establish telnet session with Replication site and so was not able to distribute the LiveUpdate content.
The following troubleshooting checks should enable the two sites to begin replicating once again and content on the SEPM to update:
Disable Firewall and make sure the primary server can ping the remote server (Replication Partner).
Make sure that a successful Telnet session can be established between both servers. Open a command prompt and type telnet (IP address of the remote server) 8443
Check the same from Remote site to Primary Site.
Make sure that the software version of SEP is exactly same on both the locations.
In the Primary location under replication partner check if logs and LiveUpdate content is selected to replicate or not. If that option is not checked Replication partner will not get update from Primary server.
Wait for Replication schedule to get completed.
Once the issue is resolved, the Replication Site SEPM will get updated to latest content and will distribute the content to the SEP clients it manages.
