PGP Desktop Does Not Start After a Windows 7 Auto Update
Last Updated May 29, 2013
When you try to open Symantec Drive Encryption (previously PGP Whole Disk Encryption) Desktop or the PGP Tray in the Windows System tray after a Windows 7 update, the PGP installation dialogue starts to run and asks for the PGPDesktop.msi file, which cannot be found.
Internal Error 2324.2
The PGP Desktop installation has been corrupted after the Windows 7 Auto Update.
Use the following steps to resolve the issue:
1. Browse to C:\Users\<user profile>\App Data\Local\Temp folder. You will find that there are numerous PGP folders having a set of alphanumeric characters at the end of the PGP folder name.
2. Choose the one with the latest timestamp, open the folder and double-click the PGPDesktop.msi file.
3. Click OK.
4. After the installation successfully completes, reboot the computer.
Once the system finishes booting to the operating system, you will not be prompted for the PGP Desktop installer.
