After configuration of NTP, an error appears in the Scanner log: Cannot assign requested address
Last Updated April 12, 2012
During an installation of a Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) scanner or wen doing post-install NTP configuration the Scanner logs indicate that a requested IPv6 address cannot be assigned. The error messages will appear similar to the following:
Nov 15 12:25:49 (err) ntpd: bind() fd 19, family 10, port 123, scope 0, addr fec0:0:200 :240:20c:29ff:fe3f:80e6, in6_is_addr_multicast=0 flags=1 fails: Cannot assign requested address
NOTE: The above error line is referencing the IPv6 address of fec0:0:200 :240:20c:29ff:fe3f:80e6
SMG is incorrectly attempting to auto-negotated IPv6 connections to NTP servers and is logging error messages for these failed attempts.
